LP5900 - Overcurrent Protection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP5900

Hello,
I have a question about LP5900.

Does LP5900 have a function of Overcurrent Protection?

Regards,
Dice-K

  • Yes.

Please refer to 'Isc' (Short-circuit current limit) in Section 6.5 (the Electrical Characteristics table), and 'Figure 9. Short-Circuit Current' in Section 6.7 (the Typical Characteristics charts), in the LP5900 datasheet.

  • Hello Donald,
    Thank you for your reply.

Does the output voltage output it normally when an electric current becomes 300mA, and a current limit acted?

    Best regards,
    Dice-K
  • The LP5900 output voltage is ensured for an output current up to 150mA, no higher.
Above 150mA the output voltage will likely be out of the ensured tolerance.
When the output current limiting is active due to low load resistance the output voltage will drop to : Vout= Isc x Rload.
Note that operating at the current limit will cause Thermal Shutdown protection circuitry to turn on.
