Re : Options for fuel Gauging Lead Acid Batteries

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2050H

Hello,

I would like to pose a question about the determination of a lead acid battery capacity without having to perform a full discharge/charge cycle.

At present a system utilising the BQ2050h is used to obtain the capacity of a 4000mAh 12V lead acid battery. The system operates remote from the battery to allow it to be used on a range of batteries. The learning cycle of the BQ2050h requires a full discharge to learn the capacity of the battery, which can take a while as the battery is first discharged, then fully charged and then fully discharged.

For the next stage of the design cycle, I would like to know if any fuel gauge exists for lead acid batteries that utilise the impedance track algorithm in any way. I would look to interface to the gauge using a microcontroller.

Look forward to your suggestions.
