BQ20Z80-V110: Moving from version V102 to 110

Part Number: BQ20Z80-V110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z80, BQ20Z80-V102, BQEVSW, BQ40Z50-R1

Hi,

A couple of years ago I developed a battery testing system using bq20z80. My customer is still using it but has problems replacing failing BQ20z80EVM board. I am investigating a possibility of replacing bq20z80-V102 with V110. My customer has tried that and says that the system does not work. The normal process of charging and measuring charge currents does not happen. I am suspecting that a parameter change between V102 and V100 can be causing this but I do not have enough experience to troubleshoot this. There might also be another problem related to that change, I am not sure.

Also the software (bqEVSW) does not support V110 ( using 0.9.24 ). We were using it to download a set of required parameters into the board and for current and voltage calibration.  Is there a way around it?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks

Jerry

  • Hi Jerry,
    Unfortunately we do not have an application report that track the changes between V102 - V110 of bq20z80 gauge since it is not recommended for new designs, we recommend selecting a new device like bq40Z50-R1

  • Thanks Haidar. I found a log file from 2011 that someboday created using our system that indicates that bqEVSW version 0.9.52 was used to access chip running V110. What do I need to do to get this version of the software?

    [Header]
    bq EVSW Version = 0.9.52
    DeviceName = bq20z80 v1.10
    Time = 8/10/2011 2:50:41 PM

    Thanks
