LM5005EVAL: schottky diode

Guru 29690 points
Part Number: LM5005EVAL

Hi Team,

LM5005EVAL uses CSHD6-100C (SURFACE MOUNT SILICON DUAL, COMMON CATHODE HIGH VOLTAGE SCHOTTKY RECTIFIER).
Could you tell me why it uses the dual diode?

I believe it is used for achieving high efficiency to reduce VF.
Is my understanding correct?

Best Regards,
Yaita

  • Hello,

Correct, the diode was selected primarily to reduce conduction losses in the 1-D period.  The non sync freewheeling diode is selected based on the forward voltage drop (Vfwd) of the diode at ~2.5A (Iout max).  The diode conduction losses can be estimated to be:

    Dloss~Iout*(1-D)*Vfwd.

    Hope this helps?
