TPS65721: First Power Up clarification

Part Number: TPS65721

Hi,

I just wanted some clarification on the first power-on requirements in section 8.3.10.6.1. The first part says first powerup can be done by pulling PB_IN low or valid AC input:

This next section says that first power-on can only be done by pulling PB_IN low.

Would plugging in a valid AC input when the battery is deeply discharged not wake up the device?

Thanks,

Josh

  • Hi Josh,

I have assigned this request to concerned Applications Engineer and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

  • Josh,

Sorry for the delay, I was in an all day meeting on Friday.

The short answer is yes, connecting AC will wake up the device.

The top section you reference describes a normal first power on, assuming nominal battery voltage and AC input are in the desired operating range.

The second section you reference is based on either removing the battery and plugging it back in with no AC input or having the battery go below the UVLO threshold. with no AC input. in these situations you need to do a PB_IN start up.

This IC has power path technology and will run from AC input with a battery or with the battery below UVLO, in which SYS will supply the power from AC Input and the battery will be charged at the same time.

Let me know if this does not answer your question. If it does please mark answered.
