LM2592HV: Reverse voltage protection

Part Number: LM2592HV

Hi,

I received the following question from my customer.

If input voltage can become to be smaller than output voltage by rejecting battery, is the reverse protection diode required during input and output such follows?

Best Regards,

Kuramochi

  • Hello Kuramochi san,

The Diode will prevent the Charge in the output cap to flow through the IC when Vin<Vout.

However you will need reverse input protection if this is a test the design needs to sustain.  See below.

With that in mind, When you use the reverse protection Diode, it makes the Diode you have drawn redundant?  Because the reverse protection diode will protect against Vin<Vout issue.

  • David-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

My customer is concerning to replace competitor's DC/DC to LM259x.
The application note of competitor's DC/DC says that the reverse protection diode required to protect the DC/DC when reversal voltage.
I understood that reversal protection diode is not required to protect LM259x.
    Is it correct?

    Best Regards,

  • Hello Kuramochi san,

If the reverse voltage stated in DS is as I have shown above, you will need the Rev Protection diode.  Can you reference the Datasheet so I can take a look pease?

    Thanks.

    David.
