Hi,

We are looking at building a product with an 18650 Li-Ion cell and a BQ24075 charger.

We need the 18650 installed (not removable) for 10 years. The cell will be use used strictly as a backup battery in the event of a power failure.

I plan to monitor the cell voltage and only recharge (top up) the cell every month or two if its just been sitting idle, or immediately charge it after the main power supply is restored.

Has anyone had any experience with this time of long lifetime application? Interested in some feedback or thoughts.

Hello,
This will depend on the battery life and cycle stated by the battery manufacturer. The BQ24079 can be used as the battery charger since it charges the battery up to 4.1V instead of the full capacity. This helps to increase the life of the battery.

The battery vendor stats 1K cycles, topping the cell up ever 3 months is only 40 cycles over the lifetime, so the margin is good.
