TPS54040A: Less input voltage margin

Part Number: TPS54040A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM46000, LM46001

Hi,

I am considering using TPS54040A device.
In using, there is one concern, so I would like to ask a question.

In my specification, I assume input of 40V at the maximum. As far as we are studying, it never exceeds 40V.
However, the maximum rating of this device is 47V, the recommended operating condition is 42V.
This has little margin to my specification.

Is there always a problem with the performance, reliability and safety of the device even if 40V is always applied as the input voltage?

Best Regards,

  • Hi,

It should not be, but you have to make sure that the voltage never reaches beyond the ABS max of the device, especially during transient. If i would choose, i would choose a 60V device such as LM46000 or LM46001. It is a synchronous part therefore efficiency is better.

    Thanks
