UCC28700-Q1: High voltage DC-DC regulator application

Hi,

I'm designing a DC-DC converter for automotive application. The maximum input voltage is 420V and output would be 5V. Output current for this application is low. Maximum output current is expected to be 0.1A.

Is UCC28700-Q1 a good controller to start with or is there any other options?

Yes ucc28700-Q1 is a good choice for that application and it is a very popular device.

Ucc28730-Q1 is another good choice and has added benefits of fast startup and lower standby power because of integrated High Voltage startup.

I assume this output needs to be isolated from the input ?

The output doesn't need to be isolated. But will be nice if it can.

Apologies for the delay. You could do a non-isolated flyback or a High Voltage buck with these parts. See these reference designs as examples:
