TPS62088: Output filter

Hi Chris-san,

Our customers place importance on efficiency as well as small size.
If they can put it on the board, They are trying to use an inductor with a slightly larger inductance value.
Therefore they are considering 1 μH.
Can you tell me that it is designed with a small size as the target,
but could you tell me the recommended value of peripheral components such as the output capacitor's capacitance value or the calculation method?

Please do not use a 1uH inductor. This is not slightly larger--it is 4x the recommended value. Why do they not use a 240 nH inductor, as recommended?

If this is the same 3.3Vin, 1.8Vout, 500 mA rail that we discussed in your other thread, there are even smaller options. Please see TPS62801/2, TPS62671, TPS82671, etc.

Even if it gets a little size up, I am considering efficiency and I am considering that efficiency will improve by using 1 μH inductor.

I compared the efficiency curve described in the datasheet with other products, but TPS62088 is considered the most efficient device,
so I am considering it.

I am aware that 1 μH is not the recommended value, but if there is a possibility that the efficiency will be good,
I would like to present the surrounding recommendation value to the customer along with the risk.
Is there any information?

Can you let me know your Vin, Vout, and Iout so that I can recommend a small device which is most efficient?

Vin = 3.3 V
Vout = 1.8 V
Iout = 500 mA

Thanks for confirming.

The TPS62088 D/S shows 92.5% efficiency at that operating point.

TPS62821 shows 95%.

If you can start a private 'conversation' with me, please share the customer and application and why they really want to use TPS62088. We may have other small options that are a better fit than these.
