TPS92560: suggestion MR16 12W power solution

Part Number: TPS92560

Dear

our client inquire 12W MR16, have any suggestion can meet below power spec?

  • Nominal 12VAC Leading and Trailing Edge Phase-Cut Dimming

  • Smooth dimming, dim to off if dimmer supports off condition

  • Open and short circuit protected

  • Maximum of 12W

  • Single LED Constant Current  (Cree MHD-E, 9Vf)

  • Current drive 450mA-1400mA   Adjustable to 4W, 6W, 8W, and 12W.

  • 3-12 Vf expected LED range

  • ~ 80% efficiency target

  • PF > 0.90

  • THD < 20%

  • Driver board dimensions: .45”x 1.30”

  • Driver envelope to fit into a round housing design

  • UL, CE, and FC Part 15 Compliant

  • Internal self-preservation temperature rollback set to 85C with a 125 option

If any suggestion, Please advise me.

Thanks,

Best regards,

Lawrence.

  • Hello Lawrence,

Our AC-DC expert will be in tomorrow. I will have him take a look at this when he can. Thanks.

Nominal 12VAC Leading and Trailing Edge Phase-Cut Dimming
Yes, should be able to do this

Smooth dimming, dim to off if dimmer supports off condition
This will depend on what they are trying to run this from, how many different sources (electronic transformers), it also may have issues at the lower power due to how some electronic transformers behave.

    Open and short circuit protected
OVP is available for open circuit protection and this method of current sensing should protect if from short circuit

    Maximum of 12W
    Should be fine

Single LED Constant Current (Cree MHD-E, 9Vf)
Can do this as a SEPIC design, this will inherently be less efficient because of the LED stack voltage and topology

    Current drive 450mA-1400mA Adjustable to 4W, 6W, 8W, and 12W.
    Yes

    3-12 Vf expected LED range
    Yes

    ~ 80% efficiency target
May be difficult to achieve with Vled being 9V and a SEPIC design

    PF > 0.90
    should be fine

    THD < 20%
    should be fine

    Driver board dimensions: .45”x 1.30”
This depends on parts chosen, layout, available height and the ability to remove heat. The SEPIC will require a larger inductor or two inductors, this may be difficult.

Driver envelope to fit into a round housing design
    Can be done

UL, CE, and FC Part 15 Compliant
Can be done however if the electronic transformer is not running where it was designed to run there can be issues with it.

Internal self-preservation temperature rollback set to 85C with a 125 option
Has internal 165 Celsius thermal shutdown with 30 degrees Celsius hysteresis. If they want to set this up for a known temperature an external circuit will be needed.

  • Hi, Irwin

we will discuess with cilent and thank you for your reply.
