BQ2002D: TM pin functions and large current charging solution

Part Number: BQ2002D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2002

Hi

I am sorry for the many question. Our customer ask some question about the behavior of BQ2002D.

1. Is there any way to disable the timer?  (disable the TM pin function.)

Because our customer would like to disable the timer and MCU will be disable the charging at the more than 440min instead of BQ2002D.

2.Regarding to Max temperature termination, it is mentioned on the datasheet as VTCO = 0.225 ∗ VCC ±5%.

However at figure 2 the formula is as VTS < 0.25 * VCC. Which is it correct? 0.25 or 0.225?

3. Our customer would like 2A fast charging using BQ2002 with NiMH. However 2A of the charging current is much high.

And we could not find the good solution.(The most of solution using BQ2002D is low current charging solutions with NiMH.)

Do you have any TI's solution for that? (the device is not only BQ2002D but also other device will be fine.)

Best Regards,

  • Hello
    1. Is there any way to disable the timer? -- No cannot disable also INH will only suspend timer
    2. Which is it correct? 0.25 or 0.225?---0.225V is more accurate
    3. Our customer would like 2A fast charging using BQ2002 with NiMH. However 2A of the charging current is much high.--When is the customer input voltage and how many cells will they charge?
  • Hi Bill-san,

    Thank you for your support.

#3: The input voltage of regulator is 5V. And the cell number is single cell. (4000mAh NiMH battery)

They use such a large capacitor battery. That is why they would like to charge at high current.

Could you provide any solution which is achieved the such high charging current with NiMH battery?

    Best Regards,
