TPS62140A: SS terminal of TPS62140A

Part Number: TPS62140A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62147

Hi

I have a question about  TPS62140A.
If I don't use the SS capacitor, should I connect SS(9pin) terminal to GND?

Best regards,
Yokota
  • Hi Yokota-san,

It's not clear what you mean, but the SS/TR pin should not be GND'ed as then the part will not start.

Section 8.3.2 in the D/S explains that floating the SS pin gives the fastest startup time. This is not advised for some applications, due to the higher inrush current drawn. If this is the case, then please add a SS cap.

As well, we have the newer, smaller, more accurate TPS62147/8.
  • Hi Chris-san

    Thank you for the reply.
I’m sorry for my lack of explanation.
Could I use TPS62140A without SS capacitor?
If it is ok, could you tell me that SS time and connecting method of SS/TR terminal?

    Best regards,

    Yokota
  • Hi Yokota-san,

My previous reply and the D/S section that I referenced should explain how to connect the SS/TR pin.

The fastest time is not controlled/limited, so it will depend on your Vin, Vout, Iout, and Cout. Do you have these defined for your application?
