tps65053 heating problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320DM355, TPS65053

Hello,

I am using TPS65053 as power feeder to TMS320DM355 DSP. 0815.SCHEMATIC1 _ SH11 SYSTEM POWER.pdf

L2 DCDC (1.3V) convertor works fine but L1 DCDC(3.3V,1A) convertor has some issue of getting very hot and Pin 18 and Pin 17 gets shorted. I have tried with couple of IC and result is same.

Attached is the schematic, let me know for any changes to be done.

Matter is very urgent.

Sudarshan

  • Hello,

Is there any update on this ?

  • Hello Sudarshan,

What is the input supply of DCDC1?

Can you please check VIN_DCDC1 , VOUT_DCDC1 and SW node of DCDC1 with a scope.

In case you measure a short between the SW node of DCDC1 and GND, the internal FET is damaged.

This could be due to voltage spikes on the SW node exceeding the abs max rating of the device.

  • Christian Hoefling,

    (1) Input to DCDC1 is 5V(ripple is 100mV)

    (2) at VIN_DCDC1 voltage is 5V, at  VOUT_DCDC1 is 0V. When powered, then I find the Pin 17 : VOUT_DCDC1 and Pin 18 GND are shorted. I tried with four IC's, and problem remains same.

I tried replacing 3.3uH (L7 in my design) with 4.7uH and everything works fine now( i am yet to try with full load). Please refer the following link:(this link helped me to fix it)

Let me know do you require any other info or advice on this link is ok ?

    Thanks

    Regards

    Sudarshan
