TPS2111: Output Voltage at current limit

Part Number: TPS2111

Hi team,

I'm an FAE supporting some industrial companies in Japan.

My customer provided a question about TPS2111A.

What voltage will be when current limit?

Will it be Vin - Ron * ILIM ?

I'm looking forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards,

Shota Mago

  • Hi Shota,

The output voltage will vary depending on the strength of the short on the output. While your equation is correct, the on-resistance of the TPS2111 will vary to limit the current to the threshold that is set. If it is a strong short (high current) then the on-resistance will be very high. If it is a weak short (slightly above the current limit) then the on-resistance will only be slightly higher than the nominal on-resistance. The voltage drop to VOUT will vary and cannot be easily predicted.

    Thanks,
