Outpu current : 0 - 3A

Rating : Automotive

UCC28C45-Q1 is a Q100 rated current mode PWM controller that can control a flyback at those operating parameters.

You can find a preliminary design with Webench at the following link

This device will production release in September 2018. If you need samples earlier we have non-automotive grade version of this device available here www.ti.com/.../UCC28C45.

Hello Eric,

Sorry for frequently asking. I have some additional questions

1. According to TI.com UCC28C43-Q1 seems to be RTMed, could you tell me reason why you chose UCC28C45-Q1?
2. What is difference of regulation method between UCC28700 and UCC28C45? According to Application example, feedback voltage is made by Aux winding like “Primary-Side Regulation”.
3. Why does Opto-coupler feedback need for the Webench result?

Below are my replies

1. UCC28C4x does not have integrated slope compensation. UCC28C45-Q1 has a duty cycle clamp of 50%, which will prevent sub-harmonic oscillation instability. For UCC28C43-Q1 it will require an external slope compensation circuit to insure stability when the duty cycle increases beyond 50%. Secton 8.3.9 (page 19) of the datasheet www.ti.com/.../ucc28c43-q1.pdf describes how to implement an external slope compensation circuit.

2. Both UCC28C4x and UCC28700 can be configured for primary side regulation. The advantage of UCC28700-Q1 that it also valley switches, reducing turn on FET losses and generated EMI. The issue with this device is that it does not work well with input voltage range that's greater than 10:1 due to the AM/FM control law. With your input range 30-450V you have an input voltage range of 15:1.

3. Webench makes assumptions in the design to enable it to provide results quickly. For the UCC28C4x model, it assumes that the designer would want secondary side regulation (SSR). If you would like to modify the design for primary side regulation (PSR), you can use the design from webench as a starting point that you can create a simulation that you can modify to have PSR or any other change you may want to make. Simulation models for the non-automotive grade UCC28C43 (which have same operation as the Q100 grade device) are available here www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware

By the way, The customer wants same evaluation data for UCC28730. Do you already have it? or need to take the data?
