UCC28C41: Driver section fails (shorted to ground)

Part Number: UCC28C41

ISL78845_sch_boost_standalone_simulation.TSC

Hi All,

Please see the UCC28C41 boost converter Tina simulation model above.

Vin=15V, Vout= 20V, IL=1A

Gate resistor =100Ohm, Fsw=25Khz

I am facing failing of part. Its driver section is shorted to ground. Is it because of high gate resistance?(More gate resistance more switching loss?). Please help

Thanks,

Tharanath

  • Hi Tharanath,

    We need to see oscilloscope plots of the gate drive voltage to be able to root cause the issue. 100R gate drive series resistance is a high value, most application use between 0R and sat 33R.

    The IC is seeing either a voltage stress or current stress on the gate drive pin. One debug test you could try is to place schottky dioes from the gate drive pin to ground and to Vcc to prevent the pin from been pulled negative by more that the forward voltage of the diode and to clmap the max pin voltage to just above Vcc.
