BQ24103: Can BQ24103 OUT pin power a micro-controller on power up?

Part Number: BQ24103

Hello,

I am working on a design with 2 Li-Ion cells (18650).  I am using a BQ24103ARHLR charger and a BQ78Z100DRZT.  My problem is, if the BQ78Z100DRZT sees an error, I will need an outside source to power the micro to evaluate the error codes and either clear them or keep it shut down.  My question becomes: Will the BQ24103ARHLR be able to provide enough power to let the micro work and evaluate the battery monitor circuit?  Just trying to understand if I have a flaw here as I do some testing on my end?

Thanks for the help,

Bill

  • It is ok to connect a reasonable load in parallel with the battery. It may not work when the battery voltage is too low.
A better solution is to connect a LDO from the input and use the LDO output to power the micro.
