TLC5940: Turning the LEDs on using DOT correction

Part Number: TLC5940

I have a question about the TLC5940 Flow Chart provided by TI. From the looks of it, you have to set the DOT correction data and then set the grayscale data. So, my question is do I have to use the Grayscale mode to turn the LEDs on or can I just set the Dot correction to turn them on? I guess I may not be understanding the datasheet.

  • Hi Brain,

Grayscale is used to set the LEDs brightness, while Dot correction is used to adjust the brightness deviations of LEDs connected to the output channels OUTx.
For the LED Driver internal circuits, Garyscale circuit is used to control the output switch FET, while the Dot correction circuit is used to control the gain of current source.
So you can only use the Grayscale mode to turn LEDs on, and if the LEDs have the different brightness, then you can adjust dot correction register to get a good brightness uniform.
