TPS2556: TPS2556 Vout Recovery time

Part Number: TPS2556

Hi Sir,

If the TPS2556 only short-Circuit instant, then how many time Vout power on again?

We are verify on TPS2556DRBEVM-423 is random between 90ms to 170ms,

Does TI have this Range spec?

  • Hi, Hugo,

It depends on when you remove short.
Vout is always trying to power on during the short circuit time. From the waveform, you can see the thermal shutdown waveform,
    1. when short circuit happened, current is limited and Vout fall to ~0.4V(limited current*load)
    2. Then Vout shutdown to 0V because over temperature protection.
    3. Then Vout turn on again when temperature are cool down, Vout still be ~0.4V, because short-circuit is not removed.
    4. Then Vout shutdown again cuz over temperature.
    5. Repeating...
    6. Short circuit removed, Vout rise to 5V.

From 2-5, We call it thermal shutdown. So when you removed the short-circuit, the Vout will power on immediately.
