TPS54341: About input capacitor

Part Number: TPS54341

Hello

I'm using TPS55341 in my project. In datasheet for input capacitance it is recommended to use ceramic capacitor. Also it is mentioned that input capacitor ripple must be more than input ripple current. But for ceramic capacitor we won't get any ripple current information. Is there any concern if we go with aluminum capacitor?

Or

How can I get ripple current of ceramic capacitor?

Whether Icrms and ripple current both are same?

Please help me out in this concern.

Regards

  • Hello,

When the datasheet mentions that "The capacitor must also have a ripple current rating greater than the maximum input current ripple of the TPS54341 device". This means the current rating of the input capacitor must be able to handle the maximum input current ripple which is based on (equation 41).

Also, ICrms does refer to the input ripple current.

Please let me know if anything remains unclear, or if you have additional questions.

    Best Regards,
    Katelyn
