I have purchased UCC21520 which has no any in built NOT gate within it.

I would like to know whether I can use it with an external NOT gate  SN74LV1G04 similar to the performance of UCC20520 which has an inbuilt NOT gate within itself.

    Hello Lakmal,

    Yes, you can use an external NOT gate such as SN74LVC1G04 with UCC21520, and it will behave similarly to UCC20520. There are two differences to be aware of:

    • UCC20520 has negligible propagation delay difference between OUTA and OUTB. However, SN74LVC1G04 has typical several nanoseconds of propagation delay. When used with UCC21520, the inverted input will lag behind the direct input, which will cause slight propagation delay mismatch between OUTA and OUTB.
    • The PWM input of UCC20520 is rated for inputs up to VCCI voltage, which can be as high as 18V (recommended maximum). The supply voltage of SN74LVC1G04 limits the maximum input voltage to <5.5V.
