LM3488: Does slope compensation matter if the converter is sync'd?

Part Number: LM3488

Hello,

Does slope compensation matter if the converter is sync'd?

Regards,

David

  • Hi David,

Sync adjusts the frequency of the system while slope compensation is used to avoid instability that is present in current-mode-control at duty cycles >50% . If the converter requires a duty cycle >50%, then slope compensation is needed.

    Best Regards,
    Richard
  • So the sync function and slope function are separate? No interaction?

  • The sync function generates a frequency from an external source, and the slope compensation is done to prevent sub-harmonic oscillation. They should not have any interaction.

    Edit:

I double-checked this and have found that the slope of the slope compensation is dependent on the switching frequency set by Rfa. However, the height of the compensation ramp is determined by the sync frequency. So they are intertwined in that way.
