I could easily find PMIC IC's for lithium battery powered devices with good application information (I need to get it to work quickly) for small currents and USB charging.

I want to know if you can advice on an IC that can handle charging multiple Lithium cells (3 or 4 series, or all parallel), with a managed system output current between 5 to 10A, and that can also switch from the battery to the charger, something that I guess would be used in a standard Laptop power management system.

So far it looks like I will have to put together a few IC's, and use more components than I have space for.

(My original question looks messy, I've rephrased it below)

I was able to easily find highly integrated lithium battery charge controllers that work as powerpaths, but all of those are designed for small output currents and usb charging.

I need a fully managed powerpath for 5 to 10A voltage regulated ouput, that works with standard lithium-ion cells with charging control (can be parallel, serial, or mixed configurations), and that also manages charging and powering the load from an external power brick, just as in normal laptop PCs.

Ideally it should be a single or two/three IC's at most system, and with the least possible number of external components, as space is reduced, and application information is important too.

Hi Rolando,

For up to 5A charging we have the BQ25890 family with integrated power FETs. It operates up to 13.5V. This charger will need exceptional heat sinking to provide 5A charging from no less than 7V input voltage. To get 10A, you could use 2 chargers in parallel. We also have external FET chargers, like BQ24773 buck based and BQ25703A buck-boost based.
