TPS2087: TPS2087

Part Number: TPS2087
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS22910A, ULN2003LV, TPL7407LA, TS5A3166, TS5A3167

TPS2087 is a  Active  Low bi-directional switch which passes input voltage from 3.3v with operating enable voltage at 5 v. These Rating are specified as per recommended conditions..But as per datasheet under the Absolute conditions ,it is stated that it can passes input voltage from all the way from 0- 5 v with operating enable voltage at 5v...but when i checked for the same, the switch is unable to pass the input voltage below 3v..so Please kindly can you tell any part number which can pass the  input voltage from             0- 3.5v with operating enable voltage at 5v and the switch has to be ACTIVE LOW..Please do also provide the .TSC file of that part so that it can be verified from the Tina Simulation..Kindly do the needful at the earliest.

  • Hi NANDINI,

Thanks for reaching out on E2E!

The TPS2087 is from our older family of load switch devices, and may not have all the functionality requested.

In general, load switches require VIN to be present to power the internal control logic. If VIN is 0V, the internal circuitry (charge pump, control logic) will not be powered. If you're looking for an active low load switch that can operate with a 5V enable, I suggest looking at the TPS22910A.

    Thanks,

    Arthur Huang

  • TPS22910A can only pass the input voltage from 1.4 v onwards..But as per my requirement ,switch has to pass the input voltage all the way from 0 to 3.3v provided the switch has to be ACTIVE LOW(operating control voltage is 0/5v)...so Please can you suggest any other part which meets the following specifications...Kindly do the needful at the earliest.
  • Hi Nandini,

Unfortunately, we don't have any load switches that can fit these requirements. Regarding the 0.5V VIN threshold, unfortunately we don't have any load switches with this low of a VIN range.

You could always try an active high load switch, and add an additional FET on the enable pin to create an "active low" version. Whenever this external FET is pulled high, the enable pin is pulled to GND. Whenever the FET is toggled low, the enable pin will be pulled up to a voltage.

    Thanks,

    Arthur Huang

  • Apart from Load switches , there arent any switch which can pass the input voltage from all the way to 0v to supply voltage when enabled with a control input voltage?
A simple PMOS FET passes the input voltage from 0 to vdd- vth..Please kindly suggest any Switch (can be either ACTIVE low or High) which can pass from 0- 4v..Else suggest any other alternative to achieve the same..Thankyou in advance..
  • Hi Nandini,

There are two potential solutions that I can think of:

1: This application seems more application for a low side switch. Would a device such as the TPL7407LA or the ULN2003LV work here instead? What is your load current?

2: Maybe a signal switch would work instead? I'm looping in the signal team to see if a 0-4V switch can be recommended.

    Thanks,

    Arthur Huang

  • My load  current is 5 mA..kindly suggest any Analog Transmission switch/Multiplexer which can pass input voltage from 0-3.5v with Ron less than 1 ohm and enable  can be either Active high or low(0/5v).

  • Nandini,

You can use the switch selection tool on Ti.com to find switches that are 1:1 configuration, 1-channel, Ron <1 ohm, and I/O continuous current >5mA.  After filtering for these parameters I found these options.  The TS5A3167 is active low and TS5A3166 is active high.

These devices will support 0-3.5 V and 0 to 5V logic signals if Vcc is set to 5 V.

    Thank you,

    Adam
