TPS53641: VIN on the TPS53641 vs VIN on CSD95372 output stage

Part Number: TPS53641

We are using the TPS53641 controller with CSD95372 output stages and we have connected to 3.3V to the VIN of the output stage and 5V to the VIN of the controller.

Does this configuration cause any issues for the controller’s reporting of power, as the two VIN inputs are not the same?

  • Hey Eric,

The VIN pin on the controller is used to sense the input voltage at the power stage in order to determine the proper on time for the regulator.  From the datasheet:

With one being at 3.3V and another at 5V you're not going to get the correct output voltage and it could very well oscillate too. Pstage VIN and this sense line should definitely be at the same potential. The applications and layout portion of the datasheet give more information on how to decouple and connect this pin. A kelvin sense line to a capacitor on the pstage input filer will suffice.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Cheers,

    Carmen
