Dear all,

How the switching frequency of PMP8878 is decided as 200KHz?. what are the parameters which limits the switching frequency?. What will happen if we the switching frequency doubled?.

Hello Aneesh,
The switching frequency chosen is one of the design requirements set for the overall power supply.
It is based on the footprint available for the power supply and the choice of component technology and cooling available.
It is a tradeoff between size and cost. The upper limit for switching frequency is set by the EMI associated with very high switching frequency.
For the PMP8878 200kHz was chosen as a typical frequency for these design requirements.
If you double the switching frequency the switching losses will increase, the magnetic components will not be optimized and the EMI generated will be higher.

Thanks for your feedback. So according to you 200KHz switching will be more solution for PMP8878.

And incerasing the switching frequency will not give any considerable advantage for your design correct?
