TPS65261: TPS65261 hiccup

Part Number: TPS65261

Would it be possible to disable hiccup mode for the TPS65261 by lowering SS voltage or toggling EN within 256 switching cycles?

If not, are there other means of disabling hiccup mode?

Otherwise, is there a triple buck available without hiccup mode?

For an application I would like to use 1 buck channel to charge a supercap in constant current mode.

Thanks.

  • Hi, Sir

Toggling EN within 256 cycles can make IC re-startup, which can shorten hiccup wait time(256 cyles) when OCP happens.

However, there is no means to disable hiccup mode.

    How much value of supercap?

Theoretically, we can enlarge soft start time(increase SS cap) to avoid triggering OCP when driving supercap.

  • Hi Zhao,

If possible I would like to charge 2 series connected 35-50F supercaps by one channel.

If the EN pin is toggled does this immediately reset the hiccup counter? For example would a 10-100us pulse on EN be sufficient to restart the channel?

So the OCP counter is also active during softstart?

    Thanks.

  • Hi, Sir

Yes, EN toggling can reset hiccup timer immediately.
Yes, OCP timer keeps active all the time.
I think using buck converter cannot charge this huge supercaps, suggest using charger IC to do this.
