LM2831: how to co-layout between TI LM2831 and ST1S06A

Part Number: LM2831

Hi TI expert,

My customer original designed ST1S06A for their project, we proposed our solution --- LM2831 but not p2p compatible.

May I know can we co-layout with ST1S06A? It's very import for us that can convince our customer to implement our solution in their next build.

  • Jin,

If you are using the LM2831 WSON package, the only pin difference is pin 6. It is the EN pin for LM2831 and NC for ST1S06A. There is a larger more fundamental difference. LM2831 is a non-synchronous converter and requires a catch diode, while the ST1S06A is a synchronous converter with an integrated LS FET. The EN pin must not be left floating. It can be tied to VIN or a suitable logic control. You will also have to provide a footprint location for the catch diode on the PCB that will not be populated for ST1S06A. The exposed pad is slightly different. You should be able to use a common pad dimension for both. Let me know if you have further questions.
