TPS2544: Can TPS2544 adjust current by parallel RLIM resistor after device enable ?

Part Number: TPS2544

Hi Team,

As title,

1. Can TPS2544 adjust current by parallel RLIM  resistor after device enable ?

2. If not, should device disable then enable to set the new current limit?

3. CTL change will discharge. Can we switch RLIM then change CTL to set new current limit?

Thanks

Shaq

  • Hello Shaq,
Would you mind elaborating on your specific use case and why you would need to have two resistors in parallel with one another for the ILIM pins? Are the two ILIM_LO and ILIM_HI pin s not enough for your application?
  • Hi Adam,

We have an application for when system the comsuption is going higer, the thermal moinitor should be detected and reduce end-device output current. Charging USB port is the one. Example for normal system run, TPS2544 ILIM_HI set to 2A, when occured thermal event, TPS2544 ILIM_HI set to 1A immediately.

The application expected run in system stable and without power off.
  • Hello,

In short, yes you can add a pair of parallel resistor and change ILIM on the fly by changing these resistances. However, the current change will not immediately take place, so I would recommend that you either change from ILIM_HI to ILIM_LO, or reset the TPS2544 after changing the resistance connected to ILIM_HI
