Hello,

I am after LM5010A-Q0, which is the same part but has higher temperature ranges.

Operating conditions are:

Input voltage: 24-60 V

Nominal Voltage: 48 V

Output voltage: 12 V

Output current: 0.6-0.7 A

Switching frequency between 171 - 200 kHz

Would this component withstand 120 deg C ambient temperature continuously for 7000 hours and among this time the temperature can rise for random duration up to 140 deg C, but total 140 deg C is going to be 120 hours?

Hello Timur,

Using your conditions, I get approximately 0.5 W of maximum power dissipation in the IC. I use EVM efficiency and subtract inductor loss and diode loss to get this number. Given that thermal resistance junction to board in the datasheet is 22.5 C/W for the HTSSOP giving approximately 35 C/W in a well-designed board, temperature rise should be limited to approximately 17 C. With 140 C ambient, the part will operate above its recommended operating temperature so may shut down due to TSD. With 120 C ambient, the part should be OK. If current can be limited to 0.4 A when the ambient is high, the part should be OK with 140 C ambient. Note that ambient here refers to the board temperature a few cm away from the device, not your module’s ambient temperature. If you have many heat generating parts near the LM5010, the board may exceed 150 C near the device even with no heat generated by the part with 140 C module ambient.

Hello Robert,

Are Grade 1 and 0 have the same junction temperature limit, because from datasheet Grade 1 is for ambient up to 125 degC and Grade 0 is up to 150 degC. So what is the difference then between them?

Hello Timur,

The difference is that the Q0 grade part has passed the more stringent Q0 qualification – basically, longer times or higher temperature.

Is it possible to know at what temperatures and for how long Grade 0 and Grade 1 passed tests?

Hello Timur,

TI follows procedures outlined in AEC documents which can be found on the web. A Q1 device must last for at least 1000 hr. at 125 C in the tests so specified in these documents (some are a little different, like temperature cycling). A Q0 device must survive 1000 hr. at 150 C. Higher temperatures and shorter durations are also allowed. Please search for AEC documents on the web. You can also contact us directly for more info.
