TPS54327: TPS54327 damage

Part Number: TPS54327

Dear TI team:

My customer used TPS54327 for 12V turn 3.3V, and they found that when the TPS54327 is working, and input a power source of 3.3V to TPS54327's output, the TPS54327 would be damaged,  Is damage normal in this case? Why?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Eric,

Yes TPS54327 may damage at this case.

TPS54327 uses DCAP2 control mode. It sense the FB voltage to decide the on time and off time of HS and LS MOSFET. The external 3.3V power source can't be perfect 3.3V, it is always slightly higher or lower. For example, if external 3.3V source is slightly higher, then FB>Vref, then LS MOS turns on constantly, then inductor current changes to negative, then more and more larger along with time, then LS MOS current becomes more and more negative, then LS MOS burn down by too large negative current. IC damage.
