BQ27421-G1: Linux/BQ27421-G1: Gauge percentage question

Part Number: BQ27421-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24140,

Hello,

Currently, we get the battery percentage by reading the StateofCharge() of the gauge. But if the battery capacity loses after a long time, can we still get 100% from the StateofCharge() or it never reaches 100% again due to the battery capacity aging?

The charger and gauge solutions we are using are bq24140+bq27421-G1.

Thanks.

Regards,

Chris Chen

  • Hi Chris

The battery capacity - qmax will degrade from what was obtained during learning. That doesn't mean you will not reach 100% SOC though. SOC is calculated as Remaining capacity (RM)/ Full charge capacity (FCC). As the gauge ages, both RM and FCC will reduce accordingly allow 100% to still be reached. SOC is a relative value.

    thanks
