CSD97394Q4M: 100% duty cycle operation

Part Number: CSD97394Q4M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25713, , SN6501

Hello,

We would like to use 2 of the CSD97394Q4M with the bq25713 battery charger.
However we need to be able to operate at 100% duty cycle.

Is it possible to provide an isolated voltage on the boot pin to do this?  (perhaps using the SN6501)
If so, what is the minimum voltage acceptable?

Thank you, Keith

  • Keith,

You can apply an external 5V floating supply on BOOT pin, referenced to Vsw node.  You may use a small diode to back bias the internal HVPMOS present on BOOT pin. However, please be advised CSD97394Q4M has Min PWM pulse of 40nS and max PWM duty cycle clamp of 85%. Those are needed since this part was intended for VR multiphase application. You won't be able to remove the 85% duty cycle clamp, there's an internal timer which does this. CSD97394Q4M needs by design a minimum 15% freewheeling  time on LS FET.

You're probably better off using a 30V PowerBlock with a simple driver, one without any smart features.

    Best regards,

    Lucian
