BQ24103A: BQ24013A to charge problem

Part Number: BQ24103A

Hi:

When testing BQ24013A to charge double-core lithium batteries, it was found that the OUT voltage was only 8.28v, which could not reach the 8.4v mentioned in the manual. As a result, the batteries could not be filled. Please help us to analyze the reasons.

  • Hi Jerry,

All buck converters need a small amount of headroom to operate.  What is the voltage close to IN and GND pins?  Is the charger still switching or has it gone into 100% duty cycle, turning on both internal PMOS FETs fully?  Those 2 PMOS FETs each have up to 400 mohm resistance.  So, even if turned on 100%, with 1-A current, the maximum voltage at OUT is 9V - 1A *(2*400mohm) = 8.2V.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi  Jeff,

I have tried to set the INPUT voltage  as  12v.but i still found  the OUTPUT voltage was 8.28v

  • Jerry,

Could you please provide some more details about your setup?

    • Are you seeing this issue on our EVM or is this occurring on another board? If it is another board, would be able to share the schematic?
    • What are you using to provide power to VIN?
    • How are you measuring VIN and VOUT?

    Thanks,

    Ricardo
