UCC28061-Q1: Absolute maximum rating_TJ

Part Number: UCC28061-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28061

Team,

This part's recommendede operating temperature range is TA=-40 to 125C.

However,  TJ  in absolute maximum rating has been specified as TJ=125C in operating.

According to this relationship BTW recommnedede operating range and absolute maximu rating, this IC seems like it can't be used at recommendede conditions, Ta=125C because TJ exceeding maximum rating, 125C(TJ).

How do you think about it?

Do you have any plan to extend absolute TJ rating to higher temperature(eg 140C)?

  • Hello,

The maximum junction temperature rating is -40 to 125 C and if the UCC28061.  On initial power up before the device has time to heat it up it can operate at 125 C.  The device is tested at 125 C based on TJ = TA at initial power up.  So the device can operate for a short period of time at an ambient temperature of 125 C before hitting thermal shutdown.

It is a good design practice to select components based on 75 to 80% of there maximum.  In the case of using the UCC28061 a good ambient maximum target would be 93.75 C to 100 C.   However, this will change based on how much power is being dissipated by the UCC28061, which will change based on the FETs that you are using in your design.

    Regards,
