BQ77915: BQ77915 Disabling Load Removal and Balancing Function

Part Number: BQ77915

Hello,

I want to make a battery that embeds to system. So I can't remove it from load. When BQ77915 enters the proctection, ic requires remove the load. So i want to disable Load Removal function. Can we do it to BQ7915?

BQ77915 is balancing at 3.8V in charging, ic starts balancing until one cell goes to OV protection. IC stops charging and keep balancing. My question is when the cell goes to safe voltage level, is IC starting to charge again? Or IC enters the Load removal mode?

Best regards.

  • Hi Benjamin,

The load removal option is configured by the factory and can not be disabled by the customer. However, we do have one version, the BQ7791504, that does have the load removal option disabled. You can find the protection thresholds for this device on the device configuration table.

The over voltage fault does not require load removal to recover. Refer to Table 1 in the datasheet for the fault recovery methods for the device.

  • Hello Mr. Shawn,

I'm thinking of using BQ7791504 just as a Cell Balancer, namely I don't need its cell protection features. May I leave SRP/SRN, DSG/CHG and LD pins unconnected? (I have another circuit for battery protection, and since I'm not using the BQ7791504 as Cell Protection I don't want any voltage drop on Rsns and the Mosfets).

    Have a nice day!

    Dmitriy

  • Hi Dmitriy,

I haven't tried this configuration myself, but I think if all the conditions for cell balancing are met the device should work for this purpose. Just make sure you enable cell balancing with the CBI pin and meet all of the required conditions. Let me know if you have any more issues.
