LMZ23608: TVS diode or clamping diode necessary for Vin input?

Part Number: LMZ23608

Does TVS diode necessary for LMZ23608 design?
Is transient-voltage-suppression built in LMZ23608?

If constant input voltage goes over 36V, is there any input voltage clamping mechanism in LMZ23608?

  • Hi Joon,

The TVS diode (D1) is optional in the design. It is there to clamp the EN voltage to 5.5V so as to not exceed the maximum rated voltage on that pin. Most likely the voltage divider will prevent that from happening. However it you have any sudden transient voltage that might spike the input supply that is high enough to cause the divided enable voltage to be higher than abs max specs, the part may experience EOS on the EN pin.

You can always put a high ESR electrolytic input cap to prevent the input voltage from spiking too high.

    Regards,
