TPS2561A: Is there any USB current limit switch can pass new MFI (R31 version)?

Part Number: TPS2561A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2547, TPS2549

Dear Team,

My customer use TPS2561A in their USB charging system, but they fail at MFI certificate (OCP test fail). Below is MFI OCP testing's spec which my customer can not pass.

The normal USB spec in my customer system is 5V/2.1A.

1. USB port can not shut down when current become 2.1*1.6A.

2. USB output voltage should recover within 5ms when OCP event is disappeared.

May I know can TPS2547 or TPS2549 pass new MFI certificate (R31) or do we have any other USB current limit switches which can pass it? Thank you.

Best Regards,

Polly Chung

  • Hi Polly,

Do you set the current limit? what's the current limit threshold you set?

2.1*1.6=3.36A, already out of the spec threshold 2.8A.

You can try to add big electrolytic capacitor such as hundred microfarad at output.

I will have a test tomorrow and reply to you then.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Polly,

    As discussed by email.

Adding one more 150uF electrolytic capacitor at output can pass the certification.

For TI's policy, I will first click resolved button.
