TLV758P: tlv758p thermal resistance

Dear team,

We recommend sot-23 TLV758p and TLV755 to customer. But customer wonder about the thermal resistance of those IC.

They will have 1.5W loss with 500mA load current but only last 1 second. Then repeat the short pulse after several hours. Will the LDO have some effects with the 1 second pulse? It will exceed 150 degree C.

Any other SOT23 LDO recommend for this?

    Of these, the TLV758P has the best thermal performance for the SOT-23 package. This has a TJA 176.9C/W. With 1.5W of power dissipation, this is a 265.35C (1.5x176.9) rise above ambient. 

    1s is a long time for this condition and the LDO will definitely thermally shutdown. 

    There is no SOT-23 LDO that can handle this.

    A better solution might be something like the TPS73701DRB which has a TJA of 49.5C/W which would yield a 74.25C rise above ambient.
