BQ24130: Output Diodes

Part Number: BQ24130

Customer is using BQ24130 for an intrinsically safe application.  The 2 cell battery pack will have 3 series diodes in the charging path and the return will be connected from the diode outputs back to the BAT sense line. The output schematic is shown below.  The diodes and resistor R18 will be located in the battery pack itself.  Also, in order to not leave the BAT pin hanging when the battery is not connected, there will be an analog switch that pulls the BAT pint to output when the battery it not inserted.

Customer has tested the application with the EVM and it seems to work.  The output voltage is regulated so as to maintain 8.4V at the BAT pin (2 cell application). The charge current stays well regulated.

Customer requested a stability analysis considering the nonlinear devices in the feedback path.  Do we have any concerns?  Please advise.

Thanks,
Mark

  • Hi Mark,

We have had other customers include diodes inside the feedback loop without issue.  As long as the feedback loop is always closed, I see no issue. Can you clarify where R18 connects and where the top trace is going?  Also where does SRN connect?

    Regards,

    Jeff
