BQ25070: over-discharge protection

I'm evaluating the BQ25070 to use in my application for charging of a lifepo4 battery. The IC has over-charge protection built in, but am I understanding that it doesn't protect from over-discharge of the battery? I would be responsible for implementing an over-discharge protection circuit?

Hi Scott,

That is correct. The overdischarge protection will have to be external to the device. I will let my colleagues follow up with you if they have recommendations for a protection circuit.

From what I can tell, the BQ29706 would be a good solution for a battery protection IC and the application example circuit within the datasheet for that IC would be a good reference for implementation?

Adding to previous question, BQ27750 would provide both a number of battery protection options and fuel gauging capabilities for lifepo4?

edit: and after further reading, it seems there's no way to do the required initial programming of the BQ27750 without using the EV2400? BQ27750 can't be fully programmed from my MCU via I2C without using bqstudio and EV2400 first?

BQ29706 could be an option indeed for your application. You can use the application circuit of the datasheet. You could also have a look at the TI Reference designs available for BQ207xx.
