EV2400: PC Connection Issue

Part Number: EV2400
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET, BQ2022A

Hi Team,

We are having issues connecting to the EV2400 with our PC. The EV2400 has been successfully updated to FW v0.28 but we can't get the USB connection to work correctly. Error window "USB Error. Insure USB cable is connected and Driver is working"

  • We've tried different USB cables and ports and have validated those cables and ports with another TI tool, MSP-FET.
  • mscvcr100.dll was initially not installed but it has been downloaded and placed in c:\windows\system32
    • Tried registering via Run window with command regsvr32 msvcr100.dll but got an error window saying "The module 'msvcr100.dll' was loaded but the entry-point DLLRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that 'msvcr100.dll' is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again.
  • Tried disconnecting and reconnecting power after dll installation
  • LEDs are on and all green
  • Nothing is showing in device manager

How do we get USB working with EV2400 board?

Thank you,

TR

  • The first step would be to make the EV2400 show up in device manager. The EV2400 uses inbuilt Windows drivers. No additional software is required to be installed for the EV2400 to show up in device manager.

    Problem source and possible solutions

    1. EV2400 hardware - Since you mention that you upgraded the firmware, can we assume that the EV2400 was working correctly at one point in time? In that case, we can eliminate EV2400 hardware as the cause, though there is a small possibility that the hardware was damaged after the FW update.

    2. EV2400 Firmware - The upgrade may not have succeeded or left the EV2400 in a weird state. Please re-run the update and try again.

    3. Windows or PC hardware - Please reboot Windows, disconnect any other USB devices and retry. Avoid use of a USB hub and connect directly to PC ports.

    1. It was new, out of the box and never had been used. The first thing was to update the FW to 0.28. The first time I got a message that it may not have been updated, and when I tried again, I got no error messages. The LEDs are all green.
    2. Re-ran. See image file attached. Everything looks OK. When I hit enter at the end, the window disappeared and the LEDs were on.  Still got driver error message when trying the bq2022 application. Not connected to any USB hubs, just PC port 3.0 USB port.
    3. Rebooted. Still not working. Same driver error. All three LEDs are ON.

  • Hello Trenton,

I'm assigning this to the monitors and protectors and authentication team.

This seems to be a bq2022A setup issue.

    Are you using HDQ mode?

  • He has it plugged into the SMB, port 1. He also tried port 4.

The device manager is now showing the addition of two HIDs when he connects the box to the USB port.

Now that it's showing up under HID as "HID-compliant vendor-defined device," what does he need to do in order to read the EEPROM from BQ2022A?

  • EV2400 is HID compliant. If it shows in the list of devices, then next step is to install EV2400 support components.

  • Customer switched to port 3 HDQ and now it's working. This is contradictory to our eV2400 user guide in section 2.4 which states that HDQ is not currently a supported interface. Why does HDQ work but not port 1 or port 4?

  • Hi Trenton,

It seems like we have some work to do to get the documentation for the BQ2022A EVM and the EV2400 up to date. I will address both of these.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    Regards,

    Matt
