TPS92640: minimum switching frequency and current limit

Hi team,

my customer is evaluating our device but from the datasheet it's not clear what's the minimum switching frequency. I read on most of our figures it's showed 500KHz or 1MHz, but my question is can this device work at 50kHz or 100KHz? What is the minimum value?

Also, I see the max output current is 5A but since this is a controller, it should depend on the FET itself right? So how is this 5A maximum calculated? Can it go above 5A, let's say at 6/7A?

If not, could you recommend any other alternative to this device that has same specs but smaller SW frequency and higher output current?

Hi Adrian,

This device can be operating at lower frequency such as 100 kHz.

It can also go beyond 5 A output if MOSFET selections are right.

Please refer to a reference design PMP8016 that we achieved even a 20 A design with TPS92641 (same as TPS92640 but with a dimming shunt-FET gate driver).
