UCC28511: comparison with ST discrete solution

Part Number: UCC28511

Hello team,

I bumped into a project where the customer wants to use the ST L4981A + ST L6565D instead of the UCC28511DWR; now except from price, could you please let me know what are the advantages of our solution?

please let me know if you already have seen such comparisons and if you have a table or similar.

Thank you and best regards,

Adrian

  • Hello Adrian,

The UCC28511 is an integrated combination pfc/pwm controller and it has the advantages of

    (1) Lower part cost compared to separate pfc and pwm controllers

    (2) The pfc is timed to supply current to the load as the secondary diode of the pfc is conducting.
This means the bulk capacitors on the pfc bus and the low voltage flyback output can be reduced.
This gives you a lower cost or ripple reduction

    (3) Because the pfc and pwm are synchronised, there is a reduction in EMI emissions.

    Regards

    John
