TPS25940EVM-635: C_dvdt adjust for no FAULT

Part Number: TPS25940EVM-635
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25940

Hi,

I'm trying to implement the TPS25940EVM-635 as a super capacitor charger. Concerned about that I have few questions.

When I try to use different C_dVdT (C_ss) values I can adjust the voltage rise time. I have noticed that very often the output will be blocked, although the current is well below the limits. The TPS25940 chip seems to be not hot, thus I cant understand why the error is triggered:

If I increase the C_dVdT (C_ss) value slightly (in this particular case to 15uF) it works, although the current is more or less the same.

Could you suggest what the issue could be?

Thanks!

  • HI Tonis,

How did you measure the temperature of the IC ? Can you check if lowering the Cdvdt is leading to turn OFF in similar way. Is yes, it is most likely thermal shut down behavior.

Are you using the Latch OFF variant of the device ? We recommend that you use the Auto-retry variant of the device for super cap charging application..
