TPS562201: Protection circuit

Part Number: TPS562201

Hi team

Regarding the protection, does TPS562201 have OCL, UVP and thermal shut down ?

And are each behaviors below ?

Is the below correct ?

-       OCL

  • Monitor low-side FET drain to source voltage.
  • If over current is detected, low-side FET keeps on until less than OCL level. (2.4A – 4.0A)
  • If TPS562201 recover from OCL, high-side FET turns on from after next cycle.

-       UVP

  • If UVP is detected, TPS562201 is shutdown at typ 24 us, and then restart after hiccup time at typ 15 ms
  • What is hiccup wait time of typ 1.8 ms ?

-       Thermal shutdown

  • If the temperature exceeds typ 160 degree, TPS56201 is shutdown.
  • How to recover shut down mode ?

Thank you and best regards,

Michiaki

  • Hi Michiaki,

Yes. TPS562201 has  OCL, UVP and thermal shut down feature.

    -       OCL

    • Monitor low-side FET drain to source voltage. ---Yes.
    • If over current is detected, low-side FET keeps on until less than OCL level. (2.4A – 4.0A)  ---Yes.
    • If TPS562201 recover from OCL, high-side FET turns on from after next cycle. ---Yes, high side will turn on a fixed value and the current is monitored in the same manner.

    -       UVP

    • If UVP is detected, TPS562201 is shutdown at typ 24 us, and then restart after hiccup time at typ 15 ms. ---24us is delay time. After 24us, the part will enter UVP.
    • What is hiccup wait time of typ 1.8 ms ? --- I copy a waveform from other part datasheet. The mechanism is the same, the time may be different.

    -       Thermal shutdown

    • If the temperature exceeds typ 160 degree, TPS56201 is shutdown. ---Yes.160 degree is a typical value, will have some variation from part to part.
    • How to recover shut down mode ? ---If the temp lower than 25 degree than thermal *** down value, the IC will restart automatically.

    Thanks,
