Hi,

Power Supply #1 acts as the adapter, so it provides the power needed to charge the battery and power the system load.

Power Supply #2 provides the 3.3 V pull-up rail for SMBus communication.

Load #1 is the system load, and Load #2 is the battery.

The simplified schematic in the BQ24765 datasheet may provide some helpful context:

Both of the pictures in your post show Figure 4 from the User's Guide. Did you mean to send two different pictures?

Thank you for your response. That clears some things up. For load 1 the user manual says it is a 30V (or above), 5A (or above) electronic load that can operate at constant current mode? Would we be able to use a power resistor as our load?

Yes, the system load can also be a power resistor or an e-load operating in constant resistance mode.
