Hi Everyone,

We have used BQ24232HARGTR in one of our clients design. Observed a dip in Vout when ever load current increase more than 1.6Amps. Is this issue can be resolved with Ilimit change or operating Mode change for the IC. Any suggestions to resolve this issue.

Hello,

The maximum ILIM on the BQ24232 is 500mA. If you have 1.6A load, the device will be in supplement mode. As such, as the current increases, the drop across the BATFET RDSON will increase which reduced the voltage on the OUT pin. That's why the voltage decreases.

Thanks for the quick response.

Based on your reply its clear that the device is going to supplement mode but if the 1.6A load is applied for very short duration is this the same case applicable.

I want to add 3 more points,

1. Adding our present schematic for clear understanding.

2. As we know Ilim for BQ24232 is 500mA. Is BQ24074 (with 1.5A Ilim) will be a good alternative to come over this issue?

3. in BQ24074 data sheet it is mentioned that max Iout is 4.5A. Is it the normal out put current without Supplement mode (or) for this current BQ24074 requires Battery?

Hello,

Yes the BQ24074 is a better alternative. However, 1.6A is still over the max ILIM of BQ24074 which is 1.5A so the device will still go into supplement mode.

I dont see any schematic attached.

4.5A max IOUT is with battery supplementing output.
