BQ24072T: Questions

Part Number: BQ24072T

Hi,

Had some questions about the BQ24072T:

  • It appears that the OUT pin will output the BAT voltage when it is not charging and no USB is connected. Is that correct? We would like the battery voltage to range from 2.8V to 4.2V.
  • I can’t seem to find the information for this. What will the OUT voltage be when a 5V charger is plugged in? Will it still be the BAT voltage or would it be the IN voltage?
  • What is the OUT current limit?
  • The IC can be programmed to various charge currents up to 1.5A. If we just program it to be constantly 1.5A, will it work well at all charge currents under 1.5A? For example, if we plug in a 500mA charger from a USB PC, will it charge at 500mA without any issues with the IC programmed to charge at 1.5A?

Thanks,
Adam

  • Hello Adam,

    1) Yes that is correct. When no input voltage is present, the output voltage will be battery voltage.

    2) When input voltage is present, OUT voltage will be VBAT + 225mV

    3) OUT max current is 4.5A.

    4) Yes. The VINDPM loop will ensure the input voltage doesn't collapse so the charge current will be reduced to whatever the input can support.
